If you follow the I-10W and the CA-1 N, which provides you with a route with the shortest physical distance route between Malibu and Los Angeles, you only have to drive a distance of 33.3 miles.

However, just because one road has the shortest distance doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to be the best route, as it can add an extra fifteen minutes to your ETA (estimated time of arrival), landing you with roughly a 1 hour 17-minute drive. If you decide to take a route with a slightly longer mileage by following the US-101 N, a drive in which you will cover 44.6 miles.

If you do choose to take the long way and follow the US-101 N, you will actually get to experience the shortest driving distance route between Los Angeles and Malibu. Taking the US-101 N gives you a trip time of 1 hour 3 minutes, which is about 15 minutes shorter than taking a more direct route.

Trains are a great transportation choice for those who do not want to personally make the drive from Malibu to Los Angeles but are not as concerned with the amount of time it takes to get there. By taking the train, you do not have to worry about getting stuck in traffic or worrying about other drivers, though you do have to spend a little bit more time on your trip.

If you choose to travel by train, you will have to spend roughly 2 hours, give or take several minutes, giving you plenty of time to spend with yourself or a friend.

Taking the train is the perfect way to multitask, allowing you to travel from Malibu to Los Angeles while doing whatever you need to, whether you choose to get some work done, read a book, or even just catch up on some much-needed sleep. Catching a train will only cost you $2-$4, an incredible deal that will leave you with your gas money still in your wallet and give you 2 hours of free time on your hand.

If you do not want to hop on a train or get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you can always hop on a bus heading from Los Angeles to Malibu for $2-$3. Catching a bus heading from one destination to the other, it will take you anywhere from 2 hours 12 minutes to 2 hours 42 minutes, depending on which bus you hop on.

No matter what way you choose to travel, you will have to cover at least 33 miles and endure the ongoings of other people, because whether or not you choose to travel by car, train, or bus, you will be surrounded by other passengers or other drivers stuck in traffic with you.
